Senior Manager – Software Engineering - Mainframe and Distributed Technologies

Business Unit Overview


FBT (Fidelity Brokerage Technology)  provides a wide range of brokerage technology solutions for FI technology and business partners. FIT team provides technology services in the area of development, maintenance, quality assurance and production support of mission critical brokerage applications. The FIT platform support is used by 300+ correspondent banks, 5000+ investment advisors, 12 million+ retail customers and 130+ hedge funds, and is capable of handling over 1 million trades per day amounting to 300 million shares. The FBT India team is distributed across Chennai and Bangalore.


Role Description


Manager for the NF/IWS team in FBT is responsible for Development and Production Support activities of mainframe and distributed applications. Analyze requirments, Estimate , design and develop critical large scale mainframe and distributed applications.  Should be able to lead and manange a team of mainframe and distributed developers.  Should be able to guide the team to mature into a complete techno functional team and lead the team in the journey of innovation. Work with India and US team managing multiple discretionary efforts across technology lines..



Key responsibilities


  • Liason with business and technology teams to lead key programs and initiatives, estimate, manage and deliver the same

  • Independently handle all SDLC phases for the NF/IWS distributed applications. Create and support mainframe and Web-based Java applications, Web services and Web interfaces.

  • Understand existing batch environment and maintain/develop new jobs.

  • Troubleshoot production problems related to software applications.

  • Drive technical initiatives with US partners and collaborate with cross-geography teams. Analyse and understand key business requirements for designing and developing/enhancing distributed applications.

  • Perform feasibility analysis on potential future projects and recommend design solutions.

  • Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of application software packages, application integration and testing tools.

  • Ensuring that development tasks are completed within the timeline provided and that issues are fully tested with minimal defects

  • Provide leadership/management to junior, senior engineers and leads, understanding how to leverage and enhance their current skills.

Candidate Description


  • Excellent application design and development skills.

  • Strong Mainframe COBOL/DB2, CICS and MAUI development and support experience

  • Ability to estimate and manage multiple stake holder for large projects/programs

  • Strong experience in architecting, implementing and managing high performance scalable J2EE applications on Linux/Unix platforms with experience in the following: Java/JEE technologies, Java Web Services, Spring, Oracle 11g/12c, iBatis, Maven/Jenkins/uDeploy.

  • Good hands on experience in developing UI layer. Experience with atleast one Java Script library like jQuery/Angular JS is a must.

  • Experience with developing/maintaining Java Batch jobs mandatory.

  • Development experience with Oracle WAS or any other application server. Tomcat knowledge is a must.

  • Excellent knowledge of J2EE architecture/design patterns, Object Oriented Design methodologies, SOA, data modeling techniques and SOAP/RESTFul.

  • Strong experience designing / developing with n-tier architectures (UI, Business Logic Layer, Data Access Layer)
  • Solid knowledge of OOP software concepts, design patterns, and best practices

  • Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment and learn new concepts / software technologies as needs arise

  • Very strong SQL experience of writing complex queries and developing views

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, and a responsible team-player

  • The ability to communicate effectively - both verbally and in writing.
