Anil is a System Analyst at Fidelity Investments India who returned to Fidelity after a stint in another firm. In this interview, he tells us why he returned and what makes him stay.

As a person who has returned to Fidelity, tell us more about your decision to leave and return.

I began my Fidelity journey with an India Operations team in in June 2011. In a short span of time, I learnt about the various processes involved in our work and became a subject matter expert. I also got involved in various key business initiatives and projects to streamline processes, enhance efficiencies, and improve quality. I even got opportunities to present to some of our senior Fidelity leaders on some of our business process recommendations.

After spending eight years in this team, I decided to move to an implementation group involved with key business data management processes. I learnt the required processes very quickly owing to my prior knowledge of essential applications involved and was part of a major application transition effort.

With two years in this team under my belt, I decided to move to another organization as I was offered a new role with new opportunities for learning, especially in the data conversion space. My move followed a decade of a successful career at Fidelity. Shortly after, however, I got an opportunity to return to Fidelity as a systems analyst and scrum leader.

How has your experience been so far since your return? What are some of the differences
between your current and previous stints with Fidelity?

In my current role as a system analyst and scrum leader in the Workplace Investing Technology team at Fidelity Investments India, I’ve been assigned to a key project involving modernization of services aimed at providing a seamless experience for end customers. I’ve been enjoying my current role to the fullest as I’m quite familiar with the retirement domain and the applications we use. I’m also quite happy that I have been able to contribute more here as compared to my previous organization, owing to the opportunity to support my team in ensuring a smooth transition of data conversion processes across geographies.

What is distinctive about your current role at Fidelity, and what do you especially like about it?

My current role at Fidelity is quite interesting as I get to learn a lot about the latest emerging technologies, especially in financial services, as well as how to enhance our applications to make them more user-friendly for end-customers. We also have access to several learning resources, which enables us to learn about the latest applications and programming languages.

What does it take for a person to be successful at Fidelity?

It is necessary to keep learning and upskilling oneself, as one may never know when opportunities knock. One should always be prepared and have personal goals in place from a professional standpoint. Always examine the landscape and explore how to constantly enhance our services and processes.
