Job Title – Lead – Database Administrator (PostgreSQL)

The Purpose of This Role

Associate will be part of Data Operations COE group within Fidelity Data Architecture & Engineering Division that primarily provides DBA support for multiple RDBMS like Oracle, PostgreSQL, Oracle E-Business Suite, DB2,  MongoDB, SQL Server & RDS on AWS. In addition, this team is also responsible for Data Lake Operations on Cloud that supports Nifi (ELT Tool), Collibra Data Governance, Alation Data Catalogue Enterprise Tools & Platform Engineering (Informatica, Middleware), Data masking (TDM) & Enterprise Snowflake Admin Support

The Value You Deliver

Work closely with CTG BU in supporting their databases, ensuring the stability, performance & help migrate them to public cloud as part of the organization data strategy by partnering with Product teams & Architects.

Core duties include:

  • Work closely with the product development team from the design phase of application & throughout their Agile development journey, the future enhancements & releases

  • Be part of their Agile Squad planning, understand the priorities & roadmap.

  • Participate in the application stress/load test & proactively identify & resolve the DB performance (batch/OLTP) issues that can potentially breach the SLA’s when the code moves to production.

  • Highlight the new DB features to the product teams that could be used in the application as future enhancements & releases.

  • Support the Database Migration, Upgrades as part of Technology Life Cycle Management to be compliant with organization standards.

  • Provide DB Capacity Analysis & provide insights to product teams on future storage & hardware requirements based on the current data growth & overall performance.

  • Identify aging data, propose/develop/implement data archiving, purging & partitioning solutions to manage the data growth.

  • Handling Database/Schema Refreshes for the lower database environments

  • Understand the RTO/RPO requirements for the application & databases to define the database backup and restore policy.

  • Managing Database Security Audit violations & resolving them

  • DB User/Access/Roles management

  • Troubleshooting & fixing production DB/SQL performance issues

  • Providing Oncall support (12/7), working with vendor on DB issues, bugs & provide solution.

  • Schedule and Co-ordinate various maintenance activities with Support teams.

  • Work on any new DB technology/new-features, POC requirements from application team

  • Help the application team in migrating their databases to public cloud (AWS).

The Skills that are Key to this role

Technical / Behavioral

  • Core PostgreSQL DBA skills (Version 10 & above)

  • Experience in maintaining development, testing and production environments.

  • Experience in POSTGRESQL Installation and Configuration, Database Backup and Recovery, SQL Tuning, User maintenance, Tablespace management, Hot Standby and Replication, PITTR and Upgradation.

  • Thorough knowledge on indexes and rebuild.

  • Perform maintenance activity in database.

  • Experienced in Backup & Recovery using PG_DUMP and PG_DUMPALL, setting up WAL archiving, Point in time recovery.

  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database.

  • Creation of Clone Database for Development/Testing Environments.

  • Up-gradation from 10 to 11 versions and database migration.

  • Installing and working tools & clients like pgadmin4, Putty.

  • Basic knowledge in adding and deleting Database in a clone in Replication environment.

  • Maintain backups and perform disaster recovery.

  • Maintain the database using different utilities. This includes using like pg_ctl and psql.

  • Experience in Installation and creating Hot Streaming Replication (Master and Slave).

  • Problem solving and good analytical skills.

  • Communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to work in tight deadlines under pressure.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business/technology requirements.

  • A sense of ownership that drives quality in everything you do.

  • A forward-looking attitude that keeps you aware of the latest in database & cloud technology space.

The Skills those are good to have for this role

  • AWS or relevant cloud technology experience on DB migration to public AWS/Azure from on-prem.

  • Knowledge on Oracle DBA.

  • Working experience on Snowflake Cloud Datawarehouse DB

  • Python Programming for Automation

  • Basic knowledge on Tableau/PowerBI for reporting.

  • AWS/Azure/OCI cloud Certified

The Expertise we’re looking for

  • 5 to 8 years of DBA (IT) experience

  • 3 + years of experience on PostgreSQL DB/SQL Performance Tuning

  • Experience on automation using shell scripting or python programming.

  • Bachelor’s degree in any technology related field (e.g, Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, etc.) required.

  • PostgreSQL Certification or other RDBMS certifications

Location: Bangalore – Manyata

Shift timings: 11 AM to 8 PM
